Updated: Heavy rains, landslides cause highway road closures

Trans-Canada Highway traffic is backed up west of Salmon Arm after a landslide closed the highway.

The ongoing heavy rainfall has resulted in numerous road closures due to mudslides throughout the area on Saturday.

According to DriveBC, the Trans-Canada Highway is down to single-lane alternating traffic at the east boundary of Glacier National Park due to a landslide. That section of highway is frequently impacted by a slides off Heather Mountain.

West of Revelstoke, there are delays on both highways heading out of Sicamous due to landslides. The Trans-Canada is down to one lane west of Salmon Arm and Highway 97A is down to one lane between Sicamous and Grindrod.

It is not know when the highways will be fully open. DriveBC advises giving extra time to reach your destination.
