Heavy precipitation has caused structural damage to several homes on Hamill Creek north of Kaslo and impacted various other creeks throughout the region. A double wide trailer has gone downstream and another home's foundation has been eroded on Hamill Creek just south of Meadow Creek. The bridge approach has been impacted, and one resident was evacuated to the north side. Power lines were in the creek as of 3 p.m. June 20.
One house has been flooded at Fletcher Creek and a small access bridge impacted, and a berm at Crawford Creek has been impacted but is holding. It is being monitored on an ongoing basis, said Bill Macpherson, Public Information Officer with the Emergency Operation Centre.
A partial dike failure on Silverton Creek is being addressed with rip-rap and equipment where a Ministry of Forests crew is assisting local personnel.
A large slide has also occurred at Campbell Creek but there is no infrastructure damage to cabins in the area.
A section of the Mirror Lake water system was impacted by debris.
Emergency personnel are at numerous locations throughout the region, assisted by other agency personnel. The Nelson Search and Rescue (SAR) boat was on the lake near Campbell Creek as of 3 p.m. on Thursday, June 20.
"Most of the smaller creeks and watercourses have peaked as the forecast has improved slightly," said a media release from the Emergency Operations Centre. "Medium and larger creeks are expected to do the same if the weather forecasts hold true." The release also noted that precipitation amounts are forecast to be considerably less than over the last 48 hours.
