Another blaze in Becker Park was promptly doused by Vernon’s fire crew.

Firefighters were called to the Friday morning fire in the forested area behind the Priest Valley Arena around 9:30 a.m.

But the spot-sized fire was quickly extinguished.

“Upon arrival, firefighters found a grass fire that was approximately 25 feet by 25 feet,” said Christy Poirier, City of Vernon communications manager. “They attacked the fire quickly, but due to the hot and dry conditions we’re experiencing, the fire grew to approximately 100 feet by 100 feet before it was extinguished.”

No structures were at risk and no injuries were reported in the incident.

It has been confirmed the fire was human caused.

This is the second blaze in Becker in less than one month. A larger fire was sparked June 5.
