UPDATE: Rose Valley Dam wildfire in West Kelowna held at three hectares

Further spread is not anticipated

UPDATE: Aug. 4, 1 p.m.

The Rose Valley Dam wildfire is being held and remains at three-hectares since it was tracked on Sunday, Aug. 2.

The Kamloops Fire Centre said it does not anticipate any further spread beyond the existing or predetermined boundaries of the fire due to weather and suppression tactics.

Multiple ground crews from BC Wildfire and West Kelowna Fire and Rescue are working to knock down the Rose Valley Dam wildfire located 11 kilometres north of West Kelowna. Twenty-seven personnel are working onsite and receiving support from six skimmers.

Crews are also supported by multiple aircraft, which knocked down the fire back on all flanks overnight on Aug. 2.

“We’d like to thank BC Wildfire for their assistance and expertise in fighting this complex fire,” said Jason Brolund, West Kelowna Fire and Rescue.

“The geography of the area as well as the gusty winds and hot weather made this a tough fight for all involved. Teams from multiple agencies worked together in unified command to keep the fire small, prevent it from threatening homes and the drinking water supply for a large portion of our community. We thank the public for the multiple reports to 911 that helped us pinpoint the fire location and get there quickly”

BC Wildfire will provide updates regarding the fire size. The cause remains under investigation.
