Mr. Alfred Herbert Kaatz passed away at his residence in Revelstoke on Wednesday, December 10th at the age of 89 years. There will be no formal funeral service by Al’s own request.

Al was born in Beausejour, Manitoba on January 16, 1925. Al joined the Canadian Army at the tender age of 17 years in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He was posted to London, Ontario for three months until he became of age and able to fulfill his wishes of getting into the scrap and see some of the world. Al spent 30 years in the Canadian Army having served in WW2, the Korean conflict, UN Peacekeeping and four years (1965-1969) in Germany. He retired from the Army in 1972 in the rank of Master Warrant Officer.

In his spare time, Al loved to play pool and cribbage and loved the time spent with his family. Al is survived by his wife of 63 years; Marion, two children: Holly (Calvin) Kermack and Ernest Kaatz (Sharon Gostola) all of Revelstoke; grandson, Dawson Lindsay and great granddaughter Adrianna Lindsay. Al will also be deeply missed by the soldiers he served in the Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) and many others from the Armoured Corps in Canada.

Al and Marion lived in several communities in B.C. after retirement, the most recent in Revelstoke where their children reside.
