Alfred Pryhitko, long time resident of Revelstoke, passed away at Queen Victoria Hospital on March 24th, 2010 at the age of 84.

He was born on the family farm at Mt. Cartier on December 15, 1925, the oldest son of Annie and Harry Pryhitko. He joined the army in September 1944 and was assigned to the Royal Canadian Artillery Division due to his excellent math skills. He joined the Royal Canadian Legion in 1955 and was still a member at his passing.

He married Doris (Olson) and raised three girls, Marie, Valerie and Julie. Alfred was a very hard worker and very particular with both his job and his gardens. He was a man of many talents. It was well known that if you had something that was impossible to fix, go see Alfie. He could fix anything. His main occupation was as a heavy duty mechanic and welder, first at Downie Street Sawmill and then for McKenzie Contracting. He retired in 1987 and spent many wonderful years travelling and camping with Doris before her illness.

He was a devoted husband, wonderful father and brother, fantastic grandpa and great grandpa and most recently “poppa” to a special little girl.

Alfred was predeceased by his parents, an infant granddaughter, Laura in 1969, his daughter Marie in February 2001 and his wife of 53 years, Doris in June of 2001.

As there are many worthwhile charities close to people’s hearts, the family requests that donations be made to the charity of one’s choice in lieu of flowers.

A special thank you from the family to Michelle and all the nurses at QVH for their kindness and compassion shown to Alfred during his stay. Thanks also goes to the dietary kitchen at QVH for making him feel like he was “eating like a king” during the early part of his stay.

At Alfred’s request, there will be no formal service. A celebration of his life was held on Tuesday, March 30th in the Senior’s Centre at the Revelstoke Community Centre.

Arrangements were in the care of Brandon Bowers Funeral Home, Revelstoke.
