Arie Huibert Thur, 94 passed away April 26 2021 peacefully in his sleep at Vancouver General Hospital.
He was born to the late Johannes and Jansje Thur of the Netherlands on Nov 7 1926 in Genderen, North Brabant, the Netherlands. He was one of 11 children. Arie left school at the age of 13 due to the outbreak of WW II.
Arie served with the Dutch Army for three years spending time in Indonesia.
Upon his return to the Netherlands he married Johanna Branderhorst and they lived in Genderen in the Netherlands for a few years before relocating to Revelstoke BC.
While living in Revelstoke, Arie was active in the Toastmasters Club and the Multicultural Society. He worked in the Forestry Sector as a Faller for many years.
Arie loved his adopted country of Canada and gave speeches at the Canada Day Celebrations in Revelstoke. He was active in his church in Salmon Arm and also in the Churches Thrift Shop.
Later he enjoyed an active Social Life at Shannon Oaks in Vancouver. Many wonderful Family Parties were had at Shannon Oaks.
Arie was predeceased by his beloved wife Johanna in 2020. He is survived by his four children: Elly Hulyd (Morris) of Vancouver, Hans Thur (Lisa) of Surrey, Derek Thur of Revelstoke and Richard Thur (Jennifer) of Kamloops. He is survived by 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Arie loved his Family and he will be sorely missed.
Graveside Ceremony for Family will be held in early May at Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.
