Barbara Elizabeth Hall (nee Johnson)

Barbara Elizabeth (Johnson) Hall was born in Vancouver in August 1923 to Ben and Bessie Johnson. Passed away peacefully in Pincher Creek, Alberta September 22, 2018. Barbara graduated from John Oliver High School and then worked for the Union Steamships Co. before pursuing a teaching career. She taught in the Revelstoke School Division at Arrowhead where she met and married Stanley Hall of Sidmouth. Daughter Joyce was born two years later.

When the Hall farm at Sidmouth was expropriated for the Hugh Keenleyside Dam in 1967 the family moved to Salmon Arm. Barb continued to substitute teach, was active in the United Church Women, church choir and taught Sunday school. Barb and Stanley enjoyed many weekends camping and fishing. Barbara was a lifelong volunteer. These included being a weekly activation volunteer at Pioneer Lodge, at Shuswap Lk General Hospital, the Churches thrift store and the food bank.

She enjoyed her daily walks, was an active member of the Shuswap Outdoors Club and was a founding member of the Shuswap Naturalists club. She spent many hours in her large garden and was a member of the Garden Club and the Historical Society. Holidays and visiting with close and extended family and friends were most cherished.

Barbara was predeceased by her parents, husband Stanley in 1982, brother Barry Johnson, sister-in-law Jessie Johnson, sister Joyce Bradley and brother-in-law Gordon Bradley. She is survived by her daughter Joyce (Don) Taylor, grandchildren Rebecca Taylor and Janet Taylor of Pincher Creek, Alberta and numerous nieces and nephews.

A service will be held at the Salmon Arm United Church on Sunday, October 7 at 2 pm with interment at Mt Ida Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the United Church of Canada in Salmon Arm, B.C.
