Mrs. Betty Beech passed away at Mt. Cartier Court Extended Care, Revelstoke on Monday, January 19th, 2009 at the age of 70 years. A Memorial Service was held at the Revelstoke United Church on Saturday afternoon, January 24th with Reverend Ken Jones officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Cartier Court Extended Care, c/o P.O. Bag 5000, Revelstoke, B.C. V0E 2S0, in memory of Betty.

Betty was born in Mayerthorpe, Alberta on December 9, 1938 and had been a resident of Revelstoke since the fall of 1963. She was an active member of the Revelstoke Arts Council and a member of the Fourth Tuesday Women’s Writing Group. Betty was a prolific writer of poems, children’s stories and articles for the local newspaper. She was a wonderful painter of both oils and watercolours. Betty loved yard sales and antiques and was a collector of many things and liked getting good bargains. Being raised under the big sky of the prairies where it was cold, it was quite a shock for Betty to move to Mica Creek and then Revelstoke where the winters weren’t so cold but the amounts of snow were hard to comprehend. Betty was a good mom to her children and tried to learn to swim for them as well as take them to the cabin every year for the summer.

Betty was predeceased by her parents, brother Bob, nieces April Beech and Laurie Meunier, her Brittany Spaniel Mim and her beloved husband Ray in October 2008. She is survived by four children: Rob (Cheryl) of Golden, Jenny of Vancouver, Jeff (Tammy) of Revelstoke and Keith of Golden; five grandchildren: Sarah, Jake, Jon, Brooke and Brianna; two brothers: Victor (Elsa) Stockall of Barrhead, Alberta and Frank Stockall of Gibbons, Alberta; numerous nieces and nephews; best friends the Schumacher family and the family dog MeToo.

Arrangements were in the care of Brandon Bowers Funeral Home, Revelstoke.
