Betty Louise Olynyk passed away at Mount Cartier Court in Revelstoke on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at the age of 87. There will be a Celebration of Life Service at the Revelstoke United Church on Friday, August 16, 2019 at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Revelstoke Community Foundation, P.O. Box 189, Revelstoke, B.C. V0E 2S0 or the charity of one's choice.
Betty was born in Cranbrook, BC to John and Nell Strand on May 18, 1932. She spent her childhood living throughout the Southern Kootenays before moving to Revelstoke in 1951. There she met and married her husband Sam in 1952 and continued to live in Revelstoke for the remainder of her life.
Betty will be remembered for her welcoming home, her love of music, her accomplishments as a china painter and her water colour paintings. She was an active member of the community and loved playing the piano at social gatherings, singing in the community choir, golfing and curling. Betty Lou inspired many local artists, sharing her artistic talents through teaching, forming art groups including her 'Golden Girls' and guiding youth and others to paint the banners. Her beautiful smile was prevalent in her outings with the Red Hat Ladies.
Betty was predeceased by her youngest son Derrick, and her parents John and Nell Strand. She is survived by her husband Sam Olynyk of Revelstoke; brother Doug (Barb) Strand of Merritt; three daughters: Debra (Ed) Wozniak of Revelstoke, Brenda Olynyk of Kamloops, Susan (Doug) Kyle of Salmon Arm; two sons: Gary Olynyk of Revelstoke, Christopher (Jenelyn) Olynyk of Revelstoke; Grandchildren: Dimitro (Rachael), Mykol (Sarah), Ryan (Markie), Tysyn (Sarah), Kevin, Nikki, Erin; Great-Grandchildren: Emma, Hunter and Hendrix.
