February 28, 1947 - October 25, 2024

In loving memory ~

Following a short but valiant battle with cancer, we sadly announce the peaceful passing of Clarence Stewart Cameron, aka CC or Santa on October 25, 2024, at Vernon Hospice surrounded by his friends and family.

Clarence was born on February 28, 1947, in Revelstoke, B.C., to Mac and Jennie Cameron, both of whom predeceased him. He was also predeceased by his beloved sister Peggy and his brother Alex.

Clarence is survived by his sister Marlene, brother Bob and their families. He leaves behind a legacy of warmth, generosity, and love for those who knew him.

Clarence graduated from Revelstoke High School and went on to attend Vancouver Vocational Institute, achieving his Red Seal Chef Certification. Over the years, he worked at many establishments throughout British Columbia, ultimately settling in Vernon. He spent many wonderful years at the Vernon Lodge, with his final position at Rosters Restaurant.

Outside of his career, Clarence was known for his kind and giving spirit. He loved spending time with friends and family, and his legendary dinner parties, especially at Thanksgiving and Christmas-will always be remembered. He had a deep love for reading, baking, and sharing his creativity, often making special crocheted tablecloths for those closest to him. His biggest passion was collecting Santa memorabilia and amassing several thousand that came out of storage and were put out on display every year.

Clarence always had a special connection with the spirit of Christmas. For 43 years, he embraced the role of Santa Claus during the month of December. Once he donned his Santa suit and his trademark bells, along with a trusty helper elf by his side, there was no mistaking him. He attended many Christmas gatherings around the Valley, but his favorite moments as Santa were spent visiting those unable to be home for the holidays. He delighted in seeing smiles light up the faces of people from the very young to those in care facilities. His presence brought joy and warmth to everyone he encountered.

Many thanks to longtime friend Doug and Cousins Eugene (Sandy) and Billy (Tina ) for taking care of all the many details that came up following his sudden diagnosis. Also, to all his wonderful friends who called or stopped by for a chat and a giggle.... He was most grateful for your love.

Clarence's family and friends would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the Bethel Funeral Home and to the staff at Vernon Hospice for their incredible care and support during his final journey.

As per Clarence's wishes, contributions in his memory may be made to Vernon Hospice House and/or Santa's Anonymous.

On May 31st there will be a service at the cemetery at 11am with a reception follow at Knights of Pythian Hall.
