1934-2020 ~ It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law and friend Dennis Geidt. Denny passed away on April 14, 2020 at Queen Victoria Hospital in Revelstoke, BC. He was 85 years old.
Denny was born on June 2, 1934 in Comox, BC. He was the middle child of three children, having an older sister, Beverly, and a younger sister, Marjorie. Denny and his sisters were lucky to have been raised so closely with cousins. His parents were a family where 2 Geidt brothers married 2 sisters. Denny's Aunt and Uncle also had 1 son and 2 daughters. All 6 children were close in age. Denny and his cousin Doug were mischievous boys and the girls Beverly, Marjorie, Doreen and Norma were always close by to pick up the pieces.
Denny started an Auto Body apprenticeship in Courtenay, and in 1954 completed his apprenticeship training at the Vancouver Vocational College. For 10 years he worked at Dueck's Car Dealership in Vancouver. Denny & Sheila married in 1956 and started raising their 2 children Cathy & Brian.
They moved to Revelstoke in 1964 where they owned and operated Revelry Billiard Lounge for 23 years. The Pool Hall started out where Conversations Coffee Shop is currently located and in 1974 Denny purchased a house next door to Main Street Cafe and tore down the house. When the snow was gone in March, with carpenters Joe Stagliano and Tony Bigelo and Labourer John Manson, Denny and the 3 guys worked tirelessly on the new building and reopened the Pool Hall 6 months later in August. This is the building Society Snow & Skate and Legends & Heroes Toys n' Apparel currently occupy.
Revelstoke offered everything Denny loved to do. He was a true outdoorsman, enjoying family camping, boating, fishing, hunting and had a passion for skiing. There were many trips as a family back to Vancouver Island where he continued his shenanigans with friends and family! Along the way he always stopped at auto wreckers and car shows, often hauling cars or car parts from one place or another. Over the next 20 years Denny worked at both the Mica & Revelstoke Dams and for other contractors.
In 1986 they closed the Pool Hall and opened Country Classic Antiques. Denny transferred his skills from auto body painting to furniture refinishing. He enjoyed working alongside his son Brian for 22 years before retiring in 2008. It is safe to say that his furniture has graced numerous homes in Revelstoke. To tourists, their furniture represented beautiful hand- finished pieces that are scattered across the country.
Denny is survived by his wife Sheila, their 2 children, Cathy (Jamie) and Brian (Mary Ellen), 7 grandchildren, Sadie (Brad), Jessa, Jonas, Reilly (Kristina), Madalyn (Terence), Emily (Oliver), and Ian, and 4 great grandchildren, Theo, Owen, Ava, and Zoe.
At Denny's request he was cremated with no service.
