April 11, 1934 - September 28, 2021
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Domenico Donato. Domenico Donato passed away in Queen Victoria Hospital on September 28th, 2021, with his family by his side.
Domenico Donato was born on April 11, 1934, in Chiaravalle Centrale, Italy. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Maria, children, Laurie (Troy), Antony (Sandy), Danny (Amie), grandchildren, Domenic, Chiara, Vienna, Aviano, Jake & Sofie, siblings Franca Stagliano (Revelstoke), Angela, Antionetta, Maria, brother Francesco (Lilliana) all of Chiaravalle and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents Antonio & Chiara, and daughter Rita.
Domenico made his first trip to Revelstoke in 1954 at the age of 20. He was a furniture maker by trade and when he moved to Revelstoke, he found work in the construction industry. He had no construction experience, but with undeniable will, determination and the desire to learn he succeeded in the industry and was often sought out by construction companies to lead complex projects.
He worked for Revelstoke Builder's under Dennis and Fuji, and in 1975 he started his own construction company until Fred Beruschi, Sr. recruited him to work for Braniff Construction (Glen & Jim). He worked for Braniff Construction until 1983 at which time he started his own company - Donato's Millwork & Construction.
He built and renovated many homes, commercial and institutional buildings in Revelstoke, and worked on bridges and overpasses east and west of Revelstoke. He was also involved in the first downtown revitalization project on Mackenzie Avenue. His construction experience was versatile and second to none. Domenico claimed he never worked a day in his life - his work along with his family were his two greatest passions in life.
Domenico was an avid reader, having read many of the traditional classics. In his spare time when he wasn't with his family, he could often be found at his shop working on a project for a friend or creating a new masterpiece of furniture.
Domenico had an incredible work ethic and great sense of humor. He was kind and giving. He was truly an amazing man who overcame adversity and never gave up. He believed that 'where there's a will, there's a way'. He was an inspiration to all who knew him. He was a wonderful husband, father, and nonno.
A Mass of Christian Burial took place on October 2nd, 2021, at St. Francis of Assisi Parish.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. MacDonald, Dr. McCaroll, the nursing staff at Queen Victoria Hospital and all the other health care professionals for the care they provided for Domenico throughout the years.
