Douglas Nelson (Doug) Parkinson passed away peacefully at Cottonwoods Care Home in Kelowna on March 17, 2020 at the age of 85 years. There will be no formal service by Doug's own request. Burial of Doug's cremated remains will take place at a later date in the Mara Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Kelowna Renal Clinic
Doug was born on May 29, 1934 in Armstrong, B.C. After finishing school, he began working on the family farm. In 1953, he moved to Revelstoke, working for C.P.R. and retired in 1989. Doug's retirement didn't last long due to boredom, so from 1995 to 2011, he worked as a Commissionaire Security Guard for the RCMP. Some of Doug's hobbies included golfing, carpentry and senior's baseball. In 1967, he was on the Centennial Committee and volunteered building the Revelstoke Arena. Doug was a member of the Elks, Rod & Gun Club, as well as the Golf Club.
Doug was predeceased by his parents Walter and Dorthea Parkinson, his only brother Thomas, sister-in-law Joanne, nephew Robert and niece Debbie Parkinson. He is survived by his wife Thelma of 63 years; children: Joy (Robert) Clark of Adelaide, Australia, Shelly Parkinson of Revelstoke, Lori (Gary) Stevenson of Malakwa and son Douglas Ronald (Ron) Parkinson of Revelstoke; grandchildren Sheena Clark (Dan) of Vancouver, Genevieve (Hayden) Brown of Perth, Australia, Tyler Maki of Revelstoke, Amanda Maki of Revelstoke, Brent (Jennifer) Stevenson of Revelstoke and Jake Stevenson of Revelstoke; great grandchildren: Carson, Grace, Alexah, Braxton, Brooklyn and Bridget; chosen daughter Betty Cass of Three Valley Gap; special nieces: Kathy Allaire of Kamloops and Tammy Gillies of Calgary, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Doug's family thanks Cottonwoods Care Home and Kelowna General Hospital for all the wonderful care given to him. They would also like to thank Gary, Chrissie and staff at Brandon Bowers Funeral Home for making all the arrangements and for their kind support.
