June 28, 1927 – June 26, 2017

With sadness, the family of Eileen Ross announce her passing. Although Eileen struggled with Alzheimer’s for the past few years, it was a brief illness that she couldn’t overcome. She passed away at the Rockyview hospital in Calgary. Eileen was born on the farm at Pine Lake, AB, to Frank and Hilda Ross. She attended Fairbanks School and Calder High School for a short while, having to come home to help run the farm after her dad’s accident in 1942. The family moved to Sylvan Lake in 1943 and Eileen worked at various jobs in Sylvan, Red Deer, Rimbey and Bentley. On June 23, 1947, she married Stephen Kutyik and then moved with his family to Kelowna where she worked at Eatons. New jobs took them to Revelstoke, BC, in 1953 and that was home for 53 years (except for 5 years in Golden). While in Golden, they both took correspondence courses to receive their high school diplomas enabling better job positions for them both. Eileen worked for Ash Downs Hardware, Ken Taylor’s GM Dealership and the Government Office. They both worked hard, enjoyed their many friends, family and pets. They loved golf immensely and travelled extensively throughout the world. Steve passed away December 23, 1994, and Eileen remained in Revelstoke until moving to Calgary in 2006 to be closer to her remaining family. Eileen is survived by her loving sister, Evelyn Cairns, 9 nephews, 3 nieces, cousins and extended family. She was predeceased by 4 half-brothers, Frank, Jim, Lewis and Albert, her dad Francis (1962), her mom Hilda (1975), nephew Doug Cairns (1975) and brothers George (1977) and John (1997). For those wishing to send a memorial gift, in lieu of flowers, the family would be grateful for donations to Alzheimer’s, Canadian Cancer, MS, your local SPCA, or a charity of choice. A private family service will be held at Queen’s Park Cemetery, Calgary (date to be determined). Cremation has taken place.
