Eldwin Earl “Al” Waters died suddenly at his residence in Revelstoke on Monday, August 23rd, 2010 at the age of 74 years. A Celebration of Life Service was held at the Revelstoke Community Center on Monday afternoon, August 30th with family and friends presiding. Cremation with interment of the cremated remains in Mountain View Cemetery, Revelstoke. Honorary pallbearers were: Kip Holloway, Jim Blake Sr., Al Perry, Bob Johnston, Bob Devlin, Rob Waters, Brian Erickson, Barry Sopko and Frank Campbell. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Connections, P.O. Box 2880, Revelstoke, B.C. V0E 2S0, in memory of Al.


Al was born in Salmon Arm, B.C. on August 22, 1936 and had been a resident of Revelstoke since 1957. In 1968 he purchased the Gulf station & store at the corner of 4th and Downie Streets. He operated this as Al’s Gulf until 1977 when he built the much larger Southside Grocery on the corner of 4th & Edward Streets which opened on August 4th, 1977. In 1991 the store was renovated and doubled in size. Al sold the store and retired in 1992. Al was a founding member of Community Connections and the president of the Revelstoke Minor Hockey Association. He loved to golf, travel with his friends and spend time at his cabin in Canoe on Shuswap Lake.


Al was predeceased by his parents and sister Louise Erickson. He is survived by his wife Margaret of Revelstoke; two children: Wade (Sheri) Waters of Qualicum Beach, B.C. and Tracey (Chris) Hillier of Revelstoke; four grandchildren: Danielle, Michelle, Michael and Riley; one brother Roy (Inge) Waters of Vernon as well as numerous nieces, nephews and good friends.


Arrangements were in the care of Brandon Bowers Funeral Home, Revelstoke.
