Elsie Eileen Hynes (nee Roberts) passed away in Mt. Cartier Court, Revelstoke, BC in the early hours of Monday, February 6, 2012 at the age of 96 years with the family at her side.


A pioneer of the Shuswap area, born in Falkland, BC on February 2, 1916. As a young child her family moved to the Kootenay area, where she met her husband James Hynes. They lived in the Kootenays until 1953. From there, with her husband Jim and three daughters, they moved to Mara, Grindrod in 1963, and then Salmon Arm in 1997, with her final move to Mt. Cartier Court in May of 2011.


Elsie was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother, always bringing joy to her family and friends. She loved to garden, quilt, hunt, fish, camp, organize cribbage and bingo games and other social events at Mara and Grindrod. With the love of her family over the years Elsie got to celebrate many special occasions from birthdays to anniversaries.


Predeceased by her parents Daniel and Mabel Roberts, four sisters and seven brothers; her loving son-in-law, Mark Dean on May 14, 2004, and her loving husband of 70 years, Jim Hynes on September 24, 2004.


She leaves her loving family of 5 daughters, Shirley Dean of Cranbrook, Thelma (Doug) Parkinson of Revelstoke, Geraldine (George) Thielman of Salmon Arm, Darlene (Richard) Dabell of Revelstoke, Gwendolyn (Steve) Bailey of Edmonton; 16 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 20 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Madeline Winkler and brother Kenneth Roberts both of Cranbrook and numerous nieces and nephews.


As per Elsie’s wishes there will be no service at this time, a family gathering and celebration of life will be held for both Elsie and Jim later this year.
