In Loving Memory ~
It's with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gerard Doyle of Revelstoke, BC. Born in North Sydney, N.S., Gerard was the sixth in a lineup of 13 Doyle children born to Ronald Vincent and Mary Frances Doyle (nee MacDonald) both of Ingonish, Cape Breton. Talk about a full house!
Growing up in Ingonish, Gerard (or Guy as he was also known) spent his days tangling with his father's salmon nets, caddying and chasing golf balls on the Highland Links, where his lifelong love for the game began.
After a stint as a commercial fisherman, Gerard headed to Sydney for trade school, earning his Red Seal in plumbing. But the real catch of his life happened at an Ingonish Legion dance in 1981, when he met his future wife, Pam. They married in '83, and their family grew to include Ben, Becky, and Christy.
Gerard wasn't one to shy away from adventure. The family moved to Fort Smith, NT in 1990 where Gerard worked as a plumber at Frank's One Call for the next two and a half years. In January 1993 Pam took a transfer to Churchill, Manitoba and Gerard ran his own plumbing business there until another Parks transfer finally settled them in Revelstoke, BC in 1998 and there he kept the pipes flowing for Burridges and later Battersby Plumbing where he was known as "Chief". He retired in 2017.
When he wasn't fixing leaks, you could find Gerard on the golf course, his name proudly etched on a few trophies. He recently started stick curling and played until he went into hospital. He had a nose for a good deal, scouring yard sales and thrift stores for hidden gems.
And every chance he got, they would head back to Cape Breton, drawn back to the ocean, to visits with family and lifelong friends, and to fishing mackerel from the dock near their Englishtown home.
Gerard greatly appreciated his AA friends, his golf group and his work colleagues. Above all, he cherished his family and leaves behind his loving wife Pam (nee Walsh), and children Ben (Tamia) and Becky (Trap) Revelstoke, B.C. and Christy (Tim), Fort Smith, NT.
His grandchildren Ryley (Olivia), Brenna, Autumn, Roland, Cobie and Emily and his great granddaughter Evelynn; his siblings Ron (Pat), Sharon (Robert), Eileen, Robert (Holly), Theresa, William, Sarah (Greg), Melissa (Tony), Brendan (Pauline), Maureen (Joel), and Ronalda; as well as 23 nieces and nephews and over 30 great nieces and nephews.
Gerard was predeceased by his parents, brother David and infant grandson Charlie.
Gerard Doyle, a man who lived life to the fullest, with a twinkle in his eye and a "Jumping Jesus" on his lips. He may be gone, but his spirit will forever echo in the hearts of those who loved him and in the stories we share and the love we hold for him. He'll forever be a reminder to embrace life with a smile and a "Jumping Jesus!".
The family wishes to express their gratitude to all the caregivers who provided Gerard with compassionate care and support over the past two and a half years.
Should you wish, donations in his memory may be made to Queen Victoria Hospital through the Revelstoke District Health Foundation, or to a charity of your choice.
A Wake was held on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. at Brandon Bowers Funeral Home, Revelstoke B.C. Cremation to follow.
