In Loving Memory ~
The family of Gilbert Chabot sadly announce his death in Salmon Arm, B.C. on January 22, 2023. He died peacefully during the night at Piccadilly Care Centre.
Gilbert was born February 17, 1933, to Polydor and Marie-Luce Chabot (Lamarre) in Albertville, Quebec, the middle child of twelve siblings.
He lived and worked in Montreal before travelling by rail in 1951 to Revelstoke and then to Nakusp by paddle boat to join his brothers working in the logging industry.
Gilbert moved to Revelstoke in 1962 where he and J. Paul Levesque formed Chabot and Levesque Logging Co. as well as other business ventures. He worked long, hard hours building his company and providing for his family and was respected by his numerous employees.
Summers were spent fishing and camping with his family and winter brought boys' hockey tournaments. Gilbert and Maryann were married in Revelstoke in 1967 where they spent fifty-two years before moving to Salmon Arm. They enjoyed world travel; he was always ready for a new adventure (and a glass of wine)!
Gilbert was predeceased by his son Kevin in 2022; his brothers Adrien, Paul, Denis and Ghislain and his sisters Ernistine, Gertrude, Therese, Claudette, and Monique.
He is survived by his wife Maryann Chabot of Salmon Arm; his daughter Marielle (Dave) Brensrud of Revelstoke and his son Marc Chabot of Sicamous; his grandchildren Tyler (Lisa) Astra, Ayla Roche, Kaity (Cody) Kissack, Olaf Brunsrud, all of Revelstoke, Jess (Stacey) Brensrud of Cranbrook, Dayna (Kris) Genovese of Brooks, Alberta, and many great-grandchildren.
He will also be remembered by his sisters Jeannine and Carmelle of Quebec and Michelle (Wilfed) of Alberta, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A family celebration of life will be held in the summer to honour his life well lived.
