June 17, 2024

April 15, 1937 - June 17, 2024

In Loving Memory ~

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Helen Evelyn Amarylliss [affectionately known as Marlis], age 87, on June 17th, 2024. She passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love and memories.

Marlis was born on April 15th, 1937, to Joseph and Irene Knutson in Hughenden, Alberta. She lived there on the family farm with her 7 siblings before moving to Edmonton at the age of 19, where a couple years later she would meet and marry her first and only love, Philip Allen Mitchell.

After moving from Edmonton to the lower mainland area they would eventually settle and raise 5 children of their own in White Rock, BC. Later in life Marlis relocated to Revelstoke to be closer to family.

She is survived by her daughter Phyllis (Ross) Lang of Revelstoke; son Dale (Gloria) Mitchell of Edmonton; sisters Arlene of Manitoba, Barb of Saskatchewan, Phyllis (Neven) of Kelowna and brothers Keith (Karen) of Vegreville and Chris of Saskatchewan.

Sadly, she was proceeded in death by her parents Joe and Irene; sister Jo-Anne; her loving husband Philip; eldest son Marlon, eldest daughter Dianne, youngest daughter Lynnette; and grandchildren James and Jennifer and the most current passing of her dear sister Karen of Edmonton just days before her own passing.

Marlis' life was filled with a large family who always loved her. Her many grandchildren and great grandchildren kept her busy in laughter, a laugh that was infectious to all who were close to her. She filled her days going on long walks and cross-country skiing in the winter.

Her most beloved passion was painting, and her paintings are loved in many homes of friends and family. She was an avid reader and was a member of a book club. She loved nothing more than a puzzle challenge, and her faithful companion "Peanut" cat was never far away no matter what she was doing.

Mom sang all of her life, no matter what she was doing she did it carrying a tune and she could often be heard on her deck playing guitar and singing to her favorite Ann Murray or gospel songs she'd learned from her many years of faithful church attendance. Her Faith was something she held onto her entire life, keeping her strong and resilient through the many trials of her life.

Marlis' family extends our heartfelt gratitude to all the staff and Dr. Kate McCarroll at Mount Cartier Court "Cottage B" and Cindy at Moberly Manor for their loving care of mom. Thank you to all the friends and family who have sent flowers, cards of condolences and comfort food. We appreciate it so much.

Mom will be laid to rest with her husband Philip in Surrey, BC at an intimate family gathering.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Revelstoke District Health Foundation -Mount Cartier Court or the Alzheimer Society of Canada

"Just a closer walk with Thee,

Grant it Savior is my plea,

I'll be satisfied as long as,

You let me walk close to Thee"
