Helen Secord

January 4, 2011

Helen Irene Secord (nee Dimor).

Nov 16, 1924 to Jan 4, 2011.

Peacefully asleep. Predeceased by husband Jack, daughter Rebecca, son Peter. Also by brothers Jim and George and sister Evelyn (Barrett). Survived by son John, daughter Cindy (Ross), granddaughters Paula (Bryce), Kelsey and Nicole, great grandson Noah and sister, Yvonne McCune. Dearly missed by beloved grandson Charles.

Born in Calgary and raised in Revelstoke, Helen graduated as an RN from Royal Inland School of Nursing in Kamloops. She met her future husband, Jack (John) while nursing at the Queen Charlotte City Hospital. Helen and Jack left Haida Gwaii after their 4 children were born and settled first in West Langley, then Port Kells where they raised their 4 children and grandson, Charles.

The house in Port Kells had swinging doors, as there were always friends, fishermen and neighbours coming through for a visit or a cup of coffee from the pot that was always fresh. Helen moved to White Rock in 1988 and spent many years enjoying her new neighbours and panoramic view from her home on Columbia Avenue. Helen’s last years were spent at Westminster House, which she always declared as “The Best Place anyone could have found for me!”

Special thanks to Dr. Benitez – Gomez for his outstanding care, compassion and understanding. Special thanks as well to the nurses and staff at Westminster House. You made her feel at home because you treated her like family.

Celebration of Life to be held at Victory Memorial Park, 14831 – 28th Avenue, Surrey at 2pm on Saturday, February 5th, 2011.
