October 29, 1951 - October 25, 2021
The family of Howard Emmet Kent Chase mourn his death on October 25, 2021, in Mt. Cartier Court, Revelstoke, B.C. Howard was born October 29, 1951, in Vernon, B.C., youngest of five children. He was predeceased by his parents Harriet (February 6, 2013) and Thomas Grant (April 13, 1992) and brothers Thomas Keith (1948) and Andrew George Grant (December 13, 1993) and is survived by sisters Miriam Elaine (David) Williams and Pamela Gwyneth (Clint) Montgomery. He leaves also to mourn cousins, nieces and great-nieces, nephews and great-nephews.
In his youth Howard was the boy who rode his new bicycle on first try; in his teens he played basketball, lacrosse and hockey; after graduation he left at age 18 for Vancouver to pursue an art scholarship. Narrowly missing the college enrollment quota, he stayed in Vancouver and concentrated on music, especially Classic Rock/Blues. He played in a few bands, had dozens of gigs, acquired over the years a good many guitars and harmonicas, and wrote a hundred or more original songs. He continued with his art, too--thousands of cartoons, showcasing the lives of his cartoon "buddies," especially Lazy Larry, Homeless Joe, Shorty and Popcan Patty.
In 2010 he brought with him to Revelstoke his music, cartoons and boxes of first-edition books he'd acquired, to live near his mother and sister. Always a guitar was nearby, as always, he practised to improve his playing and singing, and he continued to write new songs. He played a few music gigs about town, especially enjoying Friday evenings in the Frontier dining room. He had recorded all his sets online, was ready to go "on the road" this year with his music--his dream--but was stopped by COVID-19 restrictions, then cancer.
With his drawing pens set down and his voice, guitars, harmonicas now quiet, his family plan to gather in Revelstoke, May 2022, to remember Howard and celebrate his life.

Through his years in Vernon and Vancouver and during his time in Revelstoke Howard (Evan, Hugh, MrHarmonicahound) acquired close, caring friends. During his last four months, in Queen Victoria Hospital and in Mt. Cartier Court, he was helped by attentive, supportive, caring staff, with Dr. Molder and his medical team. Our Chase family are sincerely grateful for you all.
