Hulda (Hilda) Black (nee Fitz) was born on February 23rd, 1917 and was called Home suddenly to be with her Lord on May 12th, 2010 at the age of 93 years.


Hilda will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Peter Ambil of Vernon, B.C. and Gerry (Diane) Ambil of Salmon Arm,

B.C.; two step-grandchildren, David Urae and Chris Urae; two sisters, Irma and Ilse, both in Germany and numerous relatives in Brazil, New Jersey, Florida and Ontario.


She was preceded in death by her parents; several siblings; her first husband, Tony Ambil and her second husband, George Black.


Hilda was born in Oberhof, Germany, daughter of Julius & Pauline Fitz (nee Schulz). She was part of a large farm family who were displaced by the Second World War. She emigrated to Canada in 1951 with her son Peter. She married Tony Ambil and settled in Revelstoke, where her

second son Gerry was born. Hilda maintained many friendships over the years and loved writing letters to dozens of people around the world. She was not shy about expressing her opinion and often wrote letters to

politicians and “Letters to the Editor” of newspapers. Hilda loved to read and always insisted on neatness and order in all things. She enjoyed beautiful flowers and one of her favorite places to spend time was at Polson Park. She volunteered at the Upper Room Mission, was caring

and kind hearted.


A Graveside Service was held at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Chilliwack, B.C. on Monday, May 17th, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. As an expression of sympathy, those who wish to do so may send donations in memory of Hilda to the Upper Room Mission, 3403-27th Avenue, Vernon, B.C. V1T 1S2.
