James “Jimmy” McKenzie

(Sept.25, 1925 – Feb. 14, 2010)

Passed away peacefully at KGH at the age of 84.

Jimmy was born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia and moved west to Vancouver in 1946 with his new bride Christine. After a brief stint in the shipyards he moved his family, Winnie and Roslynn, to Revelstoke, BC in 1951 and began a career with the CPR which spanned 37 years. While raising an active family of five, added two boys, James and Peter and younger sister Shona, in Revelstoke, he spent many hours building boats and boating on the Shuswap. In 1975 he moved to Sicamous where he built three homes and retired from the CPR in 1985. He enjoyed golfing, curling, bowling and as always, boating. In 2005, Jim and Chris moved to Kelowna to be close to the cancer clinic. Sadly, Chris predeceased Jimmy in Feb. 2007.

Jimmy enjoyed his time at Lakeshore Place meeting new friends and was fortunate to be surrounded by family here in Kelowna. Thank you very much to the Lakeshore Place staff and residents for the warm welcome Jimmy and his family enjoyed over the last three years. Jimmy is lovingly remembered by a sister, Betty Stevens of California, children Winnie(Lorne) Vanderlinde of Saskatchewan, Roslynn (Robert)Young, James (Wanda)McKenzie, Peter (Janice)McKenzie all of Kelowna, and Shona (Gary) Keehn of Sicamous. Eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren, nephews John and Glen MacDonald of Vancouver and many friends also say good-bye. Jimmy also leaves behind his special friend Marla Shannon, and her family, of Kelowna. Thanks to the nurses on 4A and to Dr. Shaw at KGH for their thoughtful care of our father.

A memorial service was held at Lakeshore Place on Monday February 14, 2010.
