Janina Wozniak


Mrs Janina Wozniak passed away at Mt. Cartier Court, Revelstoke on Monday, February 2, 2009 at the age of 86 years.

Janina was born to Cyprian and Genowefa Piotrowski in the District of Sarny, Poland on November 10, 1922, the second of three children. At the outbreak of World War II Janina was taken by German troops to work in various factories during the war.

At the end of the war Janina was placed in a refugee camp at Shwabach, Germany. In 1946 Janina married Michael and moved to England. In 1949 with Michael and two young sons she immigrated to Canada settling in Revelstoke where a third son would be born eight years later.

While raising her young sons she worked on the family farm and then later Janina followed her passion for cooking and put her skills to work at Three Valley Gap, Smitty’s and Frontier restaurants. In her retirement years Janina enjoyed growing a garden, a night of bingo, and bowling. But she most enjoyed cooking big meals for her family and anyone else who happened to drop by. There was always prepared food waiting in Janina’s kitchen.

Janina was predeceased by her parents, brother Edward and husband Michael. She is survived by her three sons Anthony (Anna) Wozniak of Victoria, Chester (Kathy) Wozniak of Calgary and Edward (Debra) Wozniak of Revelstoke. One great-grandchild Austin and eight grandchildren: Daniel, Kelly, Alexander, Stephanine, Megan Anthony, Mykol, and Ryan as well as sister Regina (Walter) Linczewski of Sudbury, Ontario.

A graveside service will be arranged in the early summer to have Janina’s remains placed next to her husband Michael of 59 years. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Cartier Court Extended care c/o Bag 5000, Revelstoke, B.C. V0E 2S0, in memory of Janina.
