Johanna (Joan) Pieternella Thur, 90, of Vancouver passed away July 2, 2020 peacefully in her sleep at Windermere Care Residence.
She was born to the late Dirk and Pieternella Branderhorst on August 24, 1929 in Genderen, North Brabant, the Netherlands. She was one of 11 children. Johanna attended school and became an accomplished Seamstress.
She married Arie Thur in 1953 and they lived together in Genderen for a few years before relocating to Revelstoke, BC. They later moved to Salmon Arm and then to Vancouver. Johanna is survived by her husband Arie and four children, Elly Hulyd (Morris) of Vancouver, Hans Thur (Lisa) of Surrey, Derek Thur of Revelstoke and Richard Thur (Jennifer) of Kamloops. She is survived by 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
As well as being an accomplished seamstress Johanna loved the outdoors and all it had to offer. Picnics and hikes were some of her favourite pastimes. Johanna was active in her church and also volunteered at the Hospital and the Community Thrift shop. Johanna was immensely proud of her family and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories.
A Graveside ceremony for Family will take place this week Friday, July 10 at 1 pm at Mountain View Cemetery. A more Formal Memorial will take place at a future date.
