José Tomas Pereira passed away peacefully at his residence in Revelstoke on Friday, February 15th, 2008 at the age of 80 years. Prayers were recited from St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Wednesday evening, February 20th, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday morning with Father Ramon Basilla celebrant. Interment followed in the family plot of Mountain View Cemetery, Revelstoke. Pallbearers were: Paul Lay, Joe Amaral, George Amaral, Manuel Amaral, Frank Mendonca and Joe Dias. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the B.C. Cancer Foundation, 399 Royal Avenue, Kelowna, B.C. V1Y 5L3, in memory of José.

José was born in Azores, Portugal on November 17, 1927 and had been a resident of Revelstoke since 1960. He was a former long-time member of the Knights of Columbus Council #4712. José loved gardening, fishing, drawing, painting and making wine. He also enjoyed visiting with his friends. The greatest joy in José’s life was his grand daughters whom he loved being with. He was very family oriented.

José is survived by his wife Maria of Revelstoke; one daughter Emily (Paul) Lay of Vernon; two grand daughters: Katrina of Fort McMurray and Samantha of Vancouver; in-laws: Joe (Maria) Dias of Revelstoke, Manuel (Emilia) Amaral of Revelstoke, Francisco (Filamonia) Dias and Antonio Dias, both of Italy, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Arrangements were in the care of Brandon Bowers Funeral Home, Revelstoke.
