Margaret Maude Farness

January 26, 1912 - July 26, 2009


Our mother Margaret Farness passed away peacefully in her sleep July 26, 2009 at Mount Cartier Court extended care. Born in Tynemouth, England on January 26, 1912, Margaret was a very dynamic woman who loved life and lived each day to its limit.


Coming to Canada in 1945 as a young war bride with her small daughter Gloria, she and husband William settled in the Sidmouth area, south of Revelstoke. Many happy years were spent here by William and Margaret with their growing family. Beautiful flower and vegetable gardens were admired by many.


Upon the sale of their farm in 1964 to B.C. Hydro, a house was purchased in Revelstoke where they remained until William’s passing in 1985.


Margaret was predeceased by her parents Arthur and Beatrice, twin brother Fred, brothers Ron and George, sister May, an infant sister Minnie, her beloved husband William and her infant son Derek in 1953. She is survived by daughters Gloria (Roy) Abbott, Christine (Jim) Fedyniak, twins Valerie Farness and Robert Farness and son David Farness; 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.


Margaret’s last years were spent in Mount Cartier Court and the family would like to thank the staff for the excellent care she received there.


A Memorial Service was held from the Chapel of Brandon Bowers Funeral Home, Revelstoke on Friday, July 31st with Pastor Joel Olson officiating. Cremation with interment of the cremated remains in the family plot of Mountain View Cemetery, Revelstoke. Donations in Margaret’s memory may be made to the Arthritis Society, #200 – 1645 West 7th Avenue, Vancouver, B.C. V6J 1S4.
