February 25, 1933 - December 29, 2024
In Loving Memory ~
The Ross family is sad to announce the passing of Margaret Ross on December 29, 2024, with family by her side. Marg was known for her warm smile and unmistakable laugh, her generosity with both time and money, her delight in babies and children, and her fierce independence, evidenced by her favourite phrase: "I can do that." Marg was never too busy to stop and chat with anyone she knew (and plenty she didn't).
Marg was born in Trail on February 25, 1933, the first child of Sam and Peggy Reid. She attended school in Trail and after graduation began working as a telephone operator.
Marg married Bob Ross in November 1953 and the couple moved to Rivervale. After welcoming three children, Marg returned to work - first at the Bank of Montreal, then spending most of her career at Kootenay Savings Credit Union.
After retirement, Marg became a water warden for the Rivervale Water Society, tramping up Hanna Creek to monitor the community's water supply. Marg reluctantly left Rivervale for Jubilee Place in 2017. She was often seen driving her electric scooter throughout West and East Trail. Marg subsequently lived in Rosewood Village and finally Columbia View Lodge.
Marg's lifelong passion was sewing, which she started in her teens. She became a very talented seamstress, sewing everything from bathing suits to tuxedos. Later in life she joined the Tuesday Morning Quilters, making quilts to sell in support of local charities. Marg was an avid curler both in the ladies' league and on family teams with her husband and children. Marg grew beautiful flowers in her Rivervale garden; doted on her grandchildren; took up pottery alongside Bob; and, over the years, enjoyed the company of many well-loved pets.
Marg was predeceased by her husband Bob in 2004, sister Sandra Ludlow in 2017, and daughter-in-law Gail Ross in 2022.
Marg is survived by her children Sam Ross, Sandra (Wally) Nixon, and Cindy (Al) Campbell; grandchildren Karen (John) Conway, Lisa (Sam) Wall, Darrel (Sheena) Ross, Steven (Kristina) Nixon, and Brian Ross; 4 great-grandchildren; nieces Kelli Graham and Shannon May; and best friends Jacquie Swanson and Joyce Cook.
The family would like to thank the Trail Elderly Citizens Housing Society, the staff at Rosewood Village, and the staff at Columbia View Lodge for their support over the years.
There will be no service at Marg's request. The family will hold a private gathering in the spring when all can travel safely to Trail. Cremation has taken place. Sarah Stevens of Clark's Funeral Services has been entrusted with arrangements.
As an expression of sympathy, we invite you to donate to a charity of your choice.
