In loving memory ~
It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Sylvia Fuoco. Mary passed away on October 26th, 2024 at the age of 102 years, 1 month, 1 week and 1 day.
Mary is survived by her children, Rosemary (Ron) Tracy of Revelstoke, Joseph Fuoco of Trail, as well as two granddaughters, Catherine and Colleen Tracy. She is also survived by one sister-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
Mary was predeceased by her husband Carmen Fuoco, her parents, brother, sister, brothers-in law, sisters-in law, and many other relatives.
Mary was born on September 18th,1922 in Plain Lake, Alberta. She spent several years as a teacher in Northern Alberta, often in one-room schoolhouses. In 1948 she married Carmen Fuoco and moved to Revelstoke. In Revelstoke she was active in the community as a Girl Guide leader, and in the Catholic Church. Also, she was briefly a substitute teacher in Revelstoke's school district.
Mary always canned food from her extensive vegetable garden, and her fruit trees. Many apple and cherry pies were made for the church bazaars and for family members. Mary's yard was filled with a variety of beautiful and colourful flowers including her favourite dahlias; over 40 of them lined her yard.
Mary was very artistic and created many beautiful porcelain and ceramic pieces; she also hand-painted Ukrainian Easter eggs. Her hand-made Christmas angel ornaments can still be found in many Revelstoke homes.
Mary was an avid reader and enjoyed her many crime dramas, and game shows on TV. Mary was a skilled cribbage player who was still playing and winning most games up until the time before she passed.
Mary was a hard working, generous lady who was always willing to share her food, talents and time with others. Mary's motto was "We may not have much, but there are others who have less". We were blessed to have Mary with us for so long, and we will miss her dearly.
A mass of Christian burial was held on November 2nd, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Francis Catholic Church with a reception to follow at the parish hall. Internment took place at Mt. View Cemetery.
