Olive Rokosh

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Daughter, Sister and Friend, Olive Rokosh (nee Ony).

Olive passed away suddenly on May 30th in Armstrong B.C. She was born in Tisdale, Saskatchewan on March 2nd 1944 and relocated to Malakwa with her family in 1948. There she met and later married Roy, her husband of 46 years. Together they raised three sons: Terry, Corey and Shawn.

Before marrying, Olive enjoyed working at the Royal Bank in Fort St. John and later in Vernon. She then returned to her home of Malakwa where she lived the rest of her life. Olive dedicated her life lovingly caring for her family and home. She took great pride in her job and when her children were raised, she went back to school to become an Educational Assistant to be able to help other children. She spent the next several years working at both Parkview and Malakwa Elementary Schools. She always wanted to help others and loved to work behind the scenes to avoid being the center of attention. Olive’s greatest enjoyment was her family, her friends, and her home. When she wasn’t working in the garden or around the house, you could find her either visiting with Sandra next door, or on her weekly trip to Vernon where she loved to shop and then stop in at the casino to try her luck. We will remember Olive fondly for her love of life. She believed in living each day to its fullest.

Olive was predeceased by her father, Nick in 1987. She will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her husband, Roy; Mother, Kay; Sons, Terry, Corey (Sonya), and Shawn (Brenda); Grandchildren, Scott and Allison; Brother, Bill (Donna), as well as many other family and friends.

A memorial service was held on Friday morning, June 3, 2011 at 11 a.m. in the Malakwa Community Hall with Jack Bowers the funeral celebrant. A time of fellowship and refreshments followed the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation, 4480 Oak Street, B321, Vancouver, BC V6H 3V4 in memory of Olive Rokosh.
