May 11, 1926 - August 23, 2017

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our father Peter Bergman at Cottonwoods Care Centre in Kelowna on August 23, 2017. Peter was born on May 11, 1926 in Irapuato, Mexico during a year long stay by his Mennonite family as they emigrated from their colony in Ukraine to ultimately settle in Morden, Manitoba. He was sadly predeceased by his beloved wife, Clarice (Casey) in 2004 and by his brothers, Ike, Harry, Tony, Jake and Abe, and sisters Anne (Walter) Colert and Helen (Chuck) Friesen. He is survived by his daughter Judy (Dan) Basso and sons Gary (Alison), Donald (Denise) and Ronald. He dearly loved his 8 grandchildren Chelsea, Emily, Matthew, Charlotte, Nicholas, Christopher, Sean and Julia. He is also survived by his sisters Katharine (Walter) Kehler and Margaret (Neil) Reimer, and sisters-in-law Midge, Alma, Erna and Bjorg (George) Buhler. After growing up on a family farm in Manitoba, Peter enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1946 spending 10 years in the service. Upon leaving the Air Force, he moved with his family to Revelstoke in 1956 where he spent over 40 years, during which time he ran his residential construction business. In 1997, he and Casey moved to Kelowna to enjoy retirement and live closer to children and grandchildren. He suffered COPD in later life, which he attributed to smoking over much of his life and he was comforted to know that none of his children or grandchildren took up the habit. He will be sadly missed by his family. There will be no funeral or memorial in keeping with his wishes.
