In loving memory ~

Richard Mackenzie Lay, a devoted husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully in Revelstoke on Nov. 13, 2024.

Born in Montreal, QC, Dec. 27, 1949 to Harry Morison Lay and Margaret Adele Thompson, Richard was educated at UTS, Yale, and U of Guelph (Engineering). He will be forever loved by his wife Lee Wisener, daughter Adele Lay, son Lyon Lay, son-in-law Sam Rousselle, daughter-in-law Magnolia Kai, grandchildren Zoya and Ellie Rousselle-Lay, and many more family and friends.

As a mechanical engineer, he was an award-winning internationally renowned expert in sustainable buildings. In the village of Eden Mills ON, where he lived for 42 years, Richard was a consummate volunteer. Richard lived a full life, pursuing many sports and outdoor adventures. In 2022, Richard and Lee followed their grandchildren to Revelstoke. While in Revelstoke, Richard advocated for better bike commuting infrastructure and promoted sustainable buildings.

He had a distinct intelligence, sense of humour, playfulness, and storytelling style. His whimsical nature was often expressed in his metal sculptures. He will be greatly missed. There could never be enough of Richard Lay. His Celebration of Life will be held in spring 2025 in Eden Mills, ON.
