After a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, Ron passed away peacefully at home on April 4, 2021, at the age of 80.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife Dianne of 59 years, his children Dan (Anna), Eloise, and grandson Bennett. He is also survived by 2 brothers Alfie (Lynn) of Kamloops B.C. and Garry (Janet) of Golden B.C. and numerous nieces and nephews. Ron is predeceased by his parents Victor and Winnifred McKay and his brother Howard McKay.
Ron was born in Princeton B.C. and lived for a brief time in Banff Alberta and as well as Canoe BC before moving to Revelstoke at the age of 6.
In the early 60's he worked for the Ministry of Highways, as a Project Surveyor on the Simon Fraser Highway, University of British Columbia Highway, Port Mann Bridge, and Horseshoe Bay Terminal projects before returning to Revelstoke in 1967 to work as an Engineering Project Officer for Parks Canada until his retirement.
Ron loved the outdoors, fishing and camping were his passion. He was always searching for the perfect remote camping experience and spending time at the Mica Reservoir. He was an avid enthusiast of Kootenay-Columbia history and spent many hours researching and reading about it.
Ron will be remembered for his stories that he loved to tell about his exploits as a kid growing up in and around Revelstoke with his three brothers.
The family would like to thank Dr. MacLeod and Dr. Rennie along with the amazing medical staff that participated in his care.
A celebration of life will not take place as per his request and in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the BC Cancer Society, 399 Royal Avenue, Kelowna, B.C. V1Y 5L3.
