Robert Peter Lechky

September 28, 1948 – October 14, 2008

It is with sadness we announce the sudden passing of

Bob after a courageous battle with leukemia.

Bob was born in Lac la Biche, Alberta and spent his childhood in Boyle, Alberta. In 1967 he joined the RCMP and served throughout British Columbia in Kamloops, Revelstoke, Ashcroft, Terrace, Lytton, Field, Sicamous & Golden. In 1994, he retired in Golden and founded the Columbia Valley Driving School.

Bob was a Gilwell Scouter for 23 years and had a positive influence on the many scout troops he led during that time. He was an avid skier, golfer and climber/hiker and also served on the Board of Directors of the Golden Golf Club.

Bob enjoyed morning coffee with the guys at Bugaboo Café, Kicking Horse Lodge. Special thanks to Ed and Al for their unconditional friendship and support. He will be remembered for his ready smile, his corny sense of humour, his dignity and positive attitude while

dealing with his illness and most of all, for his enthusiasm for all things “Golden”.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Carol, and his son, Cst. J.R. Lechky (Cst. Laura Lechky), brother Bill (Gloria) and sister, Debbie. Bob was predeceased by his parents and brother, Ernie, and leaves numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins to remember him.

The family wishes to extend their thanks and gratitude to all the doctors, nurses and staff of the Golden District Hospital and Golden Medical Clinic for their excellent care of Bob over the past 10 years.

Appreciation goes to Dr. Lewis-Watts and Dr. Dutoit for their support. Special thanks also go out to Dr. Chris Brown and staff of the Tom Baker Cancer Center, Calgary.

At Bob’s request, there will be no funeral or memorial services. Those wishing to honor Bob’s memory may do so by donating by mail to STARS air rescue, in care of STARS Foundation, 1441 Aviation Park NE, P.O. Box 570, Calgary, Alberta T2E 8M7 or online at www.stars.ca.
