Robert “Mickey” Olson

March 1, 1927 – August 14, 2018
Robert “Mickey” Olson passed away at Mount Cartier Court Extended Care, Revelstoke on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at the age of 91 years. There will be a Celebration of Mickey’s Life at the Revelstoke Seniors Center on Sunday, September 16, 2018 at 1pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Moberly Manor, in memory of Mickey.

Mickey was born in Taft, BC on a train travelling east to Revelstoke on March 1, 1927. He grew up in Revelstoke and stayed to make his life here. Mickey was a partner and operator of Westwind Logging, and outside of work he loved to x-country ski, fish and camp. His passion for x-country skiing led him to volunteer his time grooming runs and maintaining the Nordic grooming equipment at Mt. Macpherson Nordic Ski Trails. Mickey’s involvement with the ski hill was memorialized with a run named after him.

Interestingly, as much as he enjoyed fishing Mickey did not eat fish. He caught and prepared them for others which was always appreciated. Driving was an important part of Mickey’s life both professionally and privately. He could often be seen about town in his truck and encouraged loved ones to make sure they had a good automobile.

Mickey was predeceased by his parents Elizabeth and Andrew Olsen, wife Betty and siblings Mary, Gladys, Millie, Doris, Jack, Andy and George. He is survived by his brother Ron (Shirley) of Surrey; daughter Anita (Ken) West of Kamloops; grandchildren Debbie (Paul) West of Kamloops, Ron West of Pitt Meadows, Melinda (Dave) West of Maple Ridge; numerous great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of good friends.
