Mr. Rocco Gneo passed away in Mt. Cartier Court Extended Care at Queen Victoria Hospital, Revelstoke on Sunday, August 16th, 2009 at the age of 95 years. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Monday morning, August 24th, with Father Ronnie Tagnines celebrant. Pallbearers were members of the Knights of Columbus Council #4712. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Queen Victoria Hospital or Mt. Cartier Court Extended Care Foundtion, both c/o Bag 5000, Revelstoke, B.C. V0E 2S0, in memory of Rocco.


Rocco was born in Monte San Giovanni Campano, Italy on September 22, 1913 and had been a long time resident of Revelstoke. In 1951, Rocco was hired in

Italy by the Canadian Pacific Railway and was placed in the Revelstoke Subdivision. Rocco worked east of Revelstoke as a labourer in different section houses until he landed a position as a switch maintainer in the Revelstoke yards. He spent many years there and enjoyed his work immensely. After retirement Rocco enjoyed his daily walks and rest time at the legion where he shared a beer and conversation with his friends. On his routine walks he loved meeting and greeting people. Rocco’s pride and joy was his garden.


Rocco was predeceased by his wife Toni in 2007. He is survived by his two children: Maria (Don) Roberts of Clearbrook and Sandeno (Bev) Gneo of Summerland; three grandchildren: Wayne (Pauline) Roberts of Abbotsford, Ron (Renata) Roberts of Abbotsford and Cris Gneo of Summerland; and four great grandchildren: Nicole, Joshua, Ashley and Faith.
