May 8, 1935 - March 24, 2021
Ronald "Ron" Crawford Menhinick, age 85, of Revelstoke British Columbia passed peacefully Wednesday, March 24th with his wife Anna Menhinick by his side at Queen Victoria Hospital. Born May 8th, 1935 in Bralorne, B.C. he was the son of the late Fred and Elizabeth Menhinick.
A proud member of the Tunnel & Rock Workers Union Local 168 since 1974 Ron worked on many large construction projects in British Columbia as well as a handful throughout Canada.
In the 80's he proudly represented them as a Business Agent in the Kootenay Region and ultimately finishing his career as their Vice President. Many would come to know Ron as a staunch advocate for workers' rights. He could routinely be heard saying, "A fair day's-pay for a fair day's-work".
The Revelstoke area allowed Ron to pursue his love for the outdoors which included quadding, fishing and simply enjoying God's country with his trusty dog by his side.
The town also allowed him to support his favorite Junior Hockey teams which included the Rockets, Merchants and more recently the Grizzlies. It wasn't difficult to hear his energetic voice cheering words of encouragement whether the team was playing at home or away. He would later be recognized as Fan of the Year in 2016.
Ron was also extremely supportive of the local Alcoholics Anonymous chapter. Guided by the Twelve Steps of AA himself he could be found without fail at the local meetings putting on a pot of coffee and always willing to lend a hand to those in need.
Ron was predeceased by his brothers Earl and Dennis "Red" and his sister Doreen. He is survived by his spouse Anna of Revelstoke, B.C.; son Mark Menhinick of Revelstoke; daughter Kim Menhinick (husband Alan Kuwabara) of Maryland; granddaughter Catherine; sister Bonnie (husband Harry) Penner of Richmond, B.C.; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Cremation arrangements are in the care of Brandon Bowers Funeral Home, Revelstoke. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Alcoholics Anonymous.
