June 29, 1930 - July 14, 2021
Shirlee Frances Ludwig (Granstrom) passed away peacefully at the age of 91 in her home on July 14, 2021.
Shirlee was born and raised in Revelstoke on June 29th, 1930 and spent her entire life here. She always said this is God's country and had no intention of ever leaving. She was very proud to be a 2nd generation Revelstokian from a large pioneer family.
Shirlee and Harold were married for 55 years and raised 4 children. She is survived by daughters Harolyn Ludwig, Traci Ludwig, Julie Graydon (Dan) and son John Ludwig (Marni) and very proud of her 3 grandsons: Jacob, Samuel, and Maximilian Graydon, brother Martin Fransen (Anne), nephews Bruce Granstrom (Rosemary), Ryan Fransen (Lisa), Aaron Fransen (Crystal), niece Theresa Pendlebury (Wade) and numerous great nieces and great nephews.
Shirlee was predeceased by her husband Harold in 2006, brother Kenny in 2015, sister-in-law Marion Granstrom, nephew Robert Granstrom and niece Catherine Granstrom.
In her early years, she and brother Kenny spent many hours together skiing and ski jumping on the local hills.
Shirlee knew from an early age that she was going to be a teacher. She earned her Master's Degree in Remedial Education from U.B.C. and spent many years teaching in Revelstoke.
Shirlee was a skilled Bridge player, a founding member of Moberly Manor, Women's Shelter and an active community member volunteering at the Revelstoke Museum, Golf Club, and Catholic Church functions.
She and Harold shared many activities together that included ski vacations, casino trips, curling, golfing, and travels thru the Western U.S.A. states. At the age of 75 she was thrilled to visit Europe with her 2 daughters, son-in-law, and her grandchildren. She was a great traveller and visited Europe numerous times.
The backyard pool was always a gathering place for family and friends where many memories were made, and celebrations enjoyed.
Shirlee was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She loved her family and was a mentor and role model to many.
Her family would like to thank Dr. Kim Veale, Nurse Practitioner Ann Marie Gill, Dr. Kate McCarroll, the many homecare nurses, homecare workers, and the work away helpers from around the world who assisted with her daily care and attention over the past several years. A special thank you goes out to Jennifer Parkinson for all her help, guidance, love, and contribution helping our Mom and family. Also, the special CSIL helpers for Team Shirlee over the past 7 months - Jennifer Parkinson, Annanda Jamieson, Kathleen Bailey, Andrea Patz, Beatrice Kozek and Richard Shirray
