Tom Harvie passed away at Queen Victoria Hospital, Revelstoke on Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008

at the age of 73 years. A memorial reception was held at the Revelstoke Senior’s Center on Tuesday, April 29th with Mr. Gary Sulz presiding. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Center for the Southern Interior, 399 Royal Avenue, Kelowna, B.C. V1Y 5L3, or to the Revelstoke Hospice Society, P.O. Box 3133, Revelstoke, B.C. V0E 2S0, in memory of Tom.

Tom was born in Rutland, B.C. on December 8, 1934 and had been a resident of Revelstoke since 1980. After attending Ranger School at Green Timbers from 1959 to 1960, he worked for Forestry and moved all over the province, living in Lillooet, Penticton, Bella Coola, Hazelton, Terrace, Prince Rupert, Williams Lake and finally Revelstoke. He was the District Manager for the Forestry Office in Revelstoke for many years. Tom loved the outdoors – hiking, canoeing, biking, backpacking, gardening and skiing. He taught skiing in Revelstoke for 15 years, even while he was in his 70’s. In his younger years, Tom was an avid badminton player. He met his future wife Ruth on a badminton court in Williams Lake in 1958. Tom was a great handyman who enjoyed woodworking and made small pieces of furniture and bird houses for friends and family. Tom especially enjoyed camping and looked forward every spring to the time when he and Ruth could hop into their camper and go RVing. Family was very important to Tom and he taught his oldest grandchildren to ride a bike.

Tom was predeceased by his parents, brother Alex Harvie in 1997 and sister-in-law Helen Harvie in 1999. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 50 years, Ruth of Revelstoke; two children: Janice (Kerry) Gustafson of Williams Lake and Neal (Susan) Harvie of White Rock; seven grandchildren: Dylan, Trevor, Ryan, Brandon, Taylor, Lauren and Alyssa; sisters: Margaret (Bill) Smith of Delta and Agnes Ingram of Penticton, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Cremation arrangements were in the care of Brandon Bowers Funeral Home, Revelstoke.
