December 5, 1935 - October 5, 2020
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Vera Aura after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Vera passed peacefully at her home in Revelstoke on Monday, October 5th, 2020 at the age of 84 years with her family by her side.
A Funeral Service was held at the Revelstoke Baptist Church on Saturday, October 10th, 2020 with Pastor Jordan Eadie officiating. Interment followed in the family plot at Mountain View Cemetery, Revelstoke. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice, in memory of Vera.
Vera was born in Shoreacres, B.C. on December 5th, 1935; shortly thereafter her family moved to Hills, BC. Vera spent her early childhood years living on the family farm milking the cows and chasing the chickens. She also enjoyed fishing the nearby creeks and a good game of scrub (baseball) with her school friends.
At the age of sixteen, Vera moved to Trail, B.C. and achieved a certificate in Hairdressing along with a diploma in Accounting. A few years later, Vera moved to Kamloops, B.C. where she met her soon to be husband, Takeshi John Aura. Vera and her husband (Johnny) enjoyed their early years together in Kamloops, bowling and celebrating the birth of their first two children.
An opportunity to operate a full-service garage brought them to Revelstoke in 1964. Vera along with her husband owned and operated Johnny's Service Centre, later to be known as Johnny's Fishing & Hunting, for over 50 years. Vera loved greeting generations of Revelstoke fisherman with her trademark warm smile and friendly manner.
Vera took great pleasures in the simple things in life such as huckleberry picking, mushroom picking, playing card games and sudoku. Despite that warm smile, her competitive side would come to life during a good game of crib!
Most importantly, she treasured being around her many friends and family. Vera was honoured with a lifetime membership from the Rod & Gun Club and was an active member of her church group. During her younger years she was also active in sports, gardening and baking; she canned and loved making homemade jam with all the berries she picked. No matter the activity, it was the relationships that Vera cherished most; she loved being around people.
Vera was predeceased by her parents, her husband John in 2004, sister Fran and brothers Ely and Edward. She is survived by four children: Jo-Anne (William) Baird of Drumheller, Alberta, Ken (Bernadette) Aura of Kamloops, Ron (Camille) Aura of Salmon Arm and Robert (Julia) Aura of Canmore, Alberta; grandchildren: Pamela (Craig) Nichol, Aaron Baird, Rebecca Baird, John Baird, Stephen (Stephanie) Aura, Jennifer Aura, Kathleen Turner, Rowan Aura, Maya Aura and Elise Aura; great grandchildren: Carys, Eamon, Jude, Emily, Eve, Asher, Maverick and Carson; siblings: Joe (Anne) Perepolkin of Vernon, Alex (Louise) Perepolkin of Hills and Linda (Lloyd) Dennis of Nakusp; in-laws: Kimi Sugiyama of Burnaby, Sets (Terry) Sakaki of Kamloops, Mas (Tosh) Yakura of Vernon, Mary Aura of Kamloops, Mas Aura of Armstrong and Marilyn Aura of Kamloops, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
