Verna Louella Husband

May 19, 1904 - March 4, 2009

Verna Husband passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at Mt. Cartier Court in Revelstoke. She was predeceased by her husband Rupert and daughters Alice and Lois. Verna is survived by her son Bill. She will be lovingly remembered by her seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces.

Verna, one of seven children, was born in Saltcoates, Saskatchewan, to Alice and Jabez Dyer. As the daughter of a Methodist minister, Verna never resided in one town longer than four years until she and husband Rupert planted solid roots in Revelstoke in 1945 with their three children. Verna and Rupert moved to Vancouver in 1967 after Rupert’s retirement from the CPR, where they enjoyed life and had an open door to family and visitors. After selling their home on 16th Avenue in Vancouver, they lived with daughter Lois and her family. Upon the death of Lois, Verna came back to Revelstoke to live with son Bill in 2000. In 2003, Verna resided at Moberly Manor and then in 2005 at Mt. Cartier Court. A gentle and giving soul, her quiet strength and unwavering faith were admired by the many lives Verna touched in her 104 years.

A celebration of Verna’s life will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2009 at the United Church at 2 p.m.

Following the service, a time of fellowship and refreshments will take place downstairs.

The family would lake to thank the staff at Moberly Manor and Mt. Cartier Court for the wonderful care she received over the years. Verna said many times “the girls have all been so good to me.” And to all who spent time with Verna, who called, who wrote, we thank you. It was being with family and friends that truly meant the most to Verna.
