Walter Kozek passed away in Queen Victoria Hospital, Revelstoke on Wednesday, September 28th, 2011 at the age of 89 years. A Funeral Service was held from the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, Revelstoke on Friday, October 7th with Reverend Richard Klein officiating. Interment followed in the family plot of Mountain View Cemetery, Revelstoke. Pallbearers were Stacey Lang, Roger Kozek, Joe Kozek, Phil Des Mazes, Danny Gawiuk and Rob Buchanan. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a Memorial Bench Fund, c/o City of Revelstoke, Box 170, Revelstoke, B.C. V0E 2S0.


Walter was born in Revelstoke, B.C. on June 25, 1922 and had been a lifelong resident. He was a veteran of World War II, having served overseas in Holland from 1944 until the end of the war as a radio dispatcher. Walter enjoyed square dancing, playing his fiddle and going to church. He loved to fix things and was an accomplished mechanic. He was a log scaler by trade and worked up until May 11 of this year at 89 years of age. Walter loved caring for his flowers and doing photography and enjoyed his weekly dinners downtown every Saturday night.


Walter was predeceased by his wife Mary in 1960, two brothers Steve and Joe and sister Kay Robinson. He is survived by two children: Diane (Robert) Lang of Revelstoke and Alan Kozek of Vancouver; one grandson Stacey (Sharon) Lang of Revelstoke; four great grandchildren: Joshua, Matthew, Shannley and Amanda; two sisters Rose Miazga of Vancouver and Mildred Combatley of Salem, Oregon as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
