March 13, 1944 – June 17, 2020
It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of our loving husband, father and grandfather on June 17, 2020.
Bill will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 43 years Barbara; his children Melissa (Marlon) of West Kelowna and Chris (Kim) of Revelstoke and his four grandchildren Nathan, Ava, Hudsyn and Emmersyn. He will also be deeply missed by his siblings Jack (Sandi) McKinnon of Revelstoke, Tannis (Dave) Charest of Deep Bay, numerous nieces, grand nieces, grand nephews, and friends.
Bill was born in Revelstoke, B.C. on March 13, 1944, where people will have fond memories of his outgoing friendliness towards strangers and friends alike, and his service as a volunteer fireman for 34 years. From his early years, he will be remembered as the milkman for the family owned Standard Dairy and later, for working at McGregor Motor Inn, where he met his loving wife Barbara. In following years, he worked closely with his father and brother at Jake and Jay, until his retirement to West Kelowna in 2012.
Bill was an extremely selfless man who would give you the shirt off his back, literally. He never hesitated to help anyone in need and often offered his help even when you weren’t sure you needed it. Bill would chat and tell stories to anyone who would listen, just like his father had, and he had a laugh and smile that brought you joy and comfort all at the same time. He was always there to lend a listening ear and he called every family member at least once a week just to find out how they were doing. Bill was the epitome of kindness.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill’s memory may be made to either The Heart and Stroke Foundation or Our Lady of Lourdes Parish/School, 2547 Hebert Road, West Kelowna, BC V4T 2J6.
His family wishes to thank the paramedics and the staff of Kelowna General Hospital for their kindness.
Due to current restrictions, a private family mass will be held in West Kelowna.
For all of Bill’s friends, a celebration of life will be announced and held in Revelstoke, B.C. at a later date.
