Competitors launch off the starting blocks in a breast stroke relay final at the Revelstoke Aquatic Centre on July 17.

For the first time in recent memory, the Revelstoke Aquaducks have won their home meet.

The club was led by a strong showing from the girls, who came in first with a combined points total of 1,430, beating second-place Salmon Arm Sockeyes (1,140) and third place Golden Dolphins (849).

The boys finished second with a combined score of 923, behind the Salmon Arm Sockeyes, who totalled 1,085. The Kelowna Ogopogo club came third with 650.

The overall combined score for the Aquaducks was 2,353, ahead of second-place Salmon Arm (2,225) and third-place Golden Dolphins (1,407).

Aquaducks head coach Jeff Beatty credits the team’s recent improvement to increased participation in the club. A total of 73 swimmers competed in the meet, up from recent years.

Beatty said the summer series is a great opportunity to get youth involved in a sport with a summer camp feel. Over the period of the summer series, racers spend many weekends camping with friends at out-of-town meets.

Beatty said the results were also great considering the “stiff competition” from visiting clubs.

Here are the overall combined team scores:

1. Revelstoke Aquaducks, 2,353

2. Salmon Arm Sockeyes, 2,225

3. Golden Dolphins, 1,407

4. Kelowna Ogopogo, 1,058

5. Kamloops Summer Swim Club, 295

6. Merritt Otters, 212

7. Kokannee Summer Swim Club, 295

8. Lumby Swim Club, 87

9. Penticton Pikes Swim Club, 71

10. Lillooet Killer Whales, 42
