Revelstoke Grizzlies alumni and reigning Doug Birks Division MVP Carter Bettenson has committed to play for the Okanagan Lakers next season.

Bettensen led the Grizzlies with 45 points in 43 regular season games last season and added 14 points in 14 playoff games.

“As a 20-year-old, I improved my goal-scoring ability and I was relied on more as an older player,” said Bettenson in an interview with the KIJHL. “I found a way to shift from a playmaker to a player that could do both.”

His new team, the Kelowna-based Lakers, compete in the British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League, a university hockey league. The Lakers are full-time student-athletes registered in Okanagan-based post-secondary institutions.

The young forward was a fan favourite at the Revelstoke Forum and a key piece in the Grizzlies’ victory in the 2023 Cyclone Taylor Cup. He was named the MVP for the tournament after putting up six points in four games.

“In three years his maturity culminated with the Cyclone Taylor provincial championship,” said Grizzlies Head Coach and GM Ryan Parent. “Carter was a key contributor and a strong leader.”

Last season Bettenson helped the Grizzlies win the KIJHL Teck Cup, then went on to win a bronze medal at the 2022 Cyclone Taylor Cup in Delta.
