Frights and fights enthral Enderby

Big West Wrestling made its return to Enderby.

Eddy Ross, blinded by a pumpkin, was beaten by his rival, Jimmy (Big Rig) Mitchell, on Saturday, Oct. 26 in Enderby for the main event of Big West Wrestling's return from hiatus.

Enderby was the site for an early Halloween ghoulish fight fest.

Big West Wrestling returned to the town on Saturday, Oct. 26 for a small but exciting show, in front of an animated crowd.

“To paraphrase Mark Twain,” said company co-founder and chief content officer Marty Sugar, “the reports of Big West Wrestling’s death are greatly exaggerated.”

The promotion had been on a half-year hiatus but decided to go ahead with an Enderby show.

“We expected a small crowd after several unavoidable cancellations, but the local community showed their support,” said co-founder Chris Olson. "We are grateful.”

The Main Event was a truck stop chain match, in which Jimmy (Big Rig) Mitchell defeated his recent nemesis, Eddy (Dirty) Ross, in a battle that saw both men attached at the wrist via four meters of thick logging chain. Ross drew the ire of the local fan base but wound up with a pumpkin on his head and a loss that sent the crowd home happy.

In other action, the supposedly-retired Sugar was goaded into teaming with newcomer Bruno Victorio in a tag team battle against longtime rival Rigor Von Slasher and Rigor’s newest protégé, Zaykan.

The rookie Zaykan got a tainted pinfall on Sugar, after using an exposed turnbuckle to his advantage. The show also opened with shenanigans from a character that looked like Beetlejuice, battling what may or may not have been a werewolf-type creature.

Big West Wrestling, in conjunction with B.C. Event Makers, returns to the Enderby Drill Hall on Saturday, November 23. The Canadian Goose, who has developed a following through B.C., Alberta and beyond, is the feature headliner. Also in action will be the returning Zaykan, and Marty Sugar promises to make another appearance.

“Wrestling is like the mafia,” said Suger. “Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in.”

Doors open at 7 p.m. for the event. Tickets are $15 each, with $5 from each ticket going back to the community via the Food Bank.

The event only takes cash at the door, with no ATM on premises. Tickets for the all-ages event are available at the Enderby Museum, online via BigWestWrestling.com, and at the door that night.
