Kelowna Avalanche needs community help to bury the competition

The U18 flag football team is fundraising to compete in nationals in Winnipeg

The Kelowna Avalanche flag football team is ready to cause mass destruction at nationals, but they need the support of the community to get there.

The under-18 boys team qualified to represent B.C. after battling “horrific” weather and unexpected challenges at the provincial championships, said Team Manager Brianna Diogo.

At nationals, which will be held in Winnipeg, MB, the Avalanche will be acting as team B.C., “which is a huge accomplishment, but there is also a cost that comes with it.”

The team has a goal of fundraising $5,000 for the competition and has set up a GoFundMe page., which can be found by searching ‘Kelowna Avalanche’ on the site.

The athletes: Ashton Davidson, Easton Fenske, Griffin Lea, Liam O’Flynn, Matthew Chapman, Max Reiter, Parker Scott, Reid Thompson, Sebastian Gaspar and Ty Walker, who all plan to bring home gold.

Nationals are held from July 20 to 23 and require accommodation, travel, food and gear for the team.
