The King and Queen of the Mountain event happened at Revelstoke Mountain Resort (RMR) this past weekend, and a fresh batch of royalty has been crowned.
The event happened over two days, testing contestants on their freeride skills and in the terrain park. The winners had to show a mastery of both days, combining their scores from the two days to win.
Taking the crown for the female snowboarding event, Siobhan Coughlan had an impressive 68.5 in day one on the SWF run, and an 83 on day two for a combined score of 151.5 over the weekend. Caroline Bourgie claimed second for the female snowboarders with a score of 103.5 over the weekend, and Allison Ray rounded out the podium with a 90.5 over two days.
Claiming the crown for the men, Isaiah Peters got the top spot with a 75 on day one, and a 93 on day two for a combined score of 168. In second and third place were Mike Graves and Cameron Whitaker, respectively. Graves finished the weekend with 143.5, and Whitaker had a combined score of 137.
The top female skier of the weekend was Lauren Taafe, who scored a 53 and a 66 for a total of 119 to be crowned champion. Close behind her was Maria Rydén with 112 over two days, and Jemma Capel with 104.
Claiming the top skier for the male division, which had the most contestants with 16 skiers, was Kai Smart who earned a 179. Smart’s scores were high for both days with 86 on SWF for the freeride portion, and an impressive 93 in the park. Just 11 points back from Smart was Evan Marineau with 168 over the weekend. Rounding out the podium behind Smart and Marineau was Nicholas Suchy with 164.
The next event for RMR will be Friday (March 24) for the Evening Rail Jam Series.
