PeeWee Grizzlies fall in finals

The Revelstoke Bantam Grizzlies defeated Winfield in two straight games to become champions of the Okanagan Mainline Amateur Hockey Association Bantam Tier 3 league.

The Bantams rolled to the league title after going 11-2-3 for a first place finish in the regular season.

In the playoffs they enjoyed a first round bye before taking on Kamloops in the second round. They won that series in two straight and then beat Merritt in three games in the semis.

The finals opened last Friday in Revelstoke and the Grizzlies were all over them from the start, racking up a 4-0 lead by the end of the first period, on their way to a 10-4 victory.

On Saturday the series moved to Winfield, where the Grizzlies were equal to the task, winning 7-4 to take the league title.

The team was led by a high-powered offence, including the league’s top two scorers, Colton McCarty and Cody Hodges, as well as Chevy Hantula, who finished 10th in scoring.

The PeeWee Grizzlies were not quite as successful, falling 4-2 and 4-3 to Kelowna in their league final.

They also earned a bye to the second round, where they defeated Kamloops in two games. In the semi-finals they beat Merritt in two straight to move into the finals against Kelowna.

Alas, Kelowna proved to be a bit more resilient, winning two close games for the Tier 3 title.

In other minor hockey news, the Revlestoke CMH Midget Titans lost in the semi-finals to Winfield while the Atom Grizzlies finished third in their league.
